Tax and VAT advice and planning
We are a small firm of Chartered Certified Accountants and Registered Auditors with over a decade of experience, based in Theydon Bois, near Epping in Essex.
We work with clients across London, and are happy to come to your home, office or even local pub to meet, if that is more convenient for you.
We pride ourselves on our client relationships, so if you want to have your affairs dealt with by somebody who is interested in more than just your fees, please contact us for a free initial discussion.
At the helm of Neill & Co. are two accountants with decades of experience between them.
Keith Neill FCCA
Keith is a Chartered Certified Accountant who qualified in 1991. He became an Associate Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 1992, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Association in 1997.
Keith originally trained with Sloane & Co., a West End firm that specialised in dealing with music-industry clients. After qualifying, he was promoted to manager. As well as handling many high-profile clients in the music industry, Keith gained great experience in dealing with the affairs of a wide range of other businesses, from small local shops to manufacturing firms with multi-million-pound turnovers. He left in 1993, and then spent a year and a half with Entertainment Accounting International, running their Financial Accounting department. EAI are a music practice based in the West End; they specialise in tour accounting, tax planning, and royalty accounting and audit, and manage a diverse roster of clients.
Keith specialises in business consultancy and advises on corporate strategy, advanced tax planning and providing consultancy for long-term business growth. Keith regularly works out of our London office, so can arrange an initial meeting in central London, if required. If you would like to discuss your requirements you can contact Keith here.
Greg Wright FCCA MAAT
Greg became an Associate Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 2002, becoming a Fellow in 2007. Greg manages our Theydon Bois office.
With a wealth of experience in helping small businesses navigate their way through the tax system and grow organically, Greg can help your business right the way through from inception to maturity. He can advise on which structure is the best fit for your business model, and help with tax planning and all of the necessary compliance work a small enterprise requires. If you would like someone looking after your business in an efficient, friendly and proactive manner, you can contact Greg here for a free initial discussion.
Financial planning is a complex subject and should be constantly re-assessed in relation to changes in legislation and financial status.
Neill & Co. will be pleased to offer guidance on any area of financial concern, and to become a proactive member of your team.
Here at Neill &Co. we pride ourselves on the breadth of our portfolio of clients. Our original specialism was the music industry, and we continue to act for record companies, music publishers, management companies, artists, producers, recording studios and many other specialist service providers in that industry. However, we also act for taxi drivers, computer consultants, specialist electrical contractors, building companies, printers, print finishers, local shops, internet companies, cleaning contractors, specialist chemical companies, graphic designers, recruitment consultants, courier companies, garages, landlords, management consultants and pensioners. We also pride ourselves on the breadth of our general business experience, and can advise on much more than just the financial aspects of your business.
It can be very tempting to take the attitude of “I’ll deal with the accountancy later; I’ve got more important things to do.” However, forward planning is essential in today’s environment. Legislation is changing faster than ever before, and the consequences of failing to plan for the future can be very damaging.
The team at Neill & Co. can provide a wide range of advice on all tax matters, including: preparation of self-sssessment tax returns; determining personal and corporation tax liabilities; preparation of tax computations; and submission to and correspondence with HMRC.
We can advise on business start-up considerations, such as:
- whether structuring your business as a sole trader/partnership or as a limited company would be most beneficial;
- making use of available concessions and allowances, considering the use of trusts;
- pensions schemes;
- capital gains and losses;
- planning for retirement;
- tax implications of sale of or retirement from business ownership;
- the use of trusts and pension funds.
For limited companies we can advise on optimising the use of available tax concessions, corporate structure, etc.
Neill & Co. can provide a bookkeeping service, either from our own office or yours.
We can also provide support for a client’s own in-house bookkeeping department, by instituting systems for accounting and management control and, if required, recruiting, training and supervising a client’s own bookkeeper.
Neill & Co. recognise that, in view of recent legislation, the correct preparation and submission of corporate accounts is more important than ever before. Our team can assist in the preparation of annual accounts for presentation to management, shareholders, banks, the Registrar of Companies and HMRC.
If required, we can also assist in the preparation of management accounts, interim accounts, cashflow forecasts, and financial information for budgeting, pricing and stock control.
Keith originally trained with Sloane & Co., a West End music practice. After qualifying, he was promoted to Manager. As well as dealing with many high profile clients such as Soul II Soul, OMD, Mark Morrison, Maxi Priest and INXS, a great deal of experience was gained in dealing with the affairs of smaller musicians, record labels, recording studios and management companies.
He left in 1993, and then spent one and a half years with Entertainment Accounting International, running their Financial Accounting department. E.A.I. are a music practice based in the West End who specialise in Tour Accounting, Tax Planning, and Royalty Accounting and Audit, with a diverse roster of clients ranging from Johnny Cash to Sheryl Crow, Placido Domingo, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tangerine Dream and Tricky.
In 1994 Keith decided to set up his own practice. A conscious decision was made not to be based in the West End; instead an office was set up in the provinces with the intention of keeping down overheads and hence fees. The practice has remained very successful, and now acts for a multitude of music industry clients, as well as for some very interesting clients who have nothing at all to do with music!
One of our particular specialisms is business affairs consultancy. We can handle all types of contractual work, from drafting a simple group agreement between members of a band to negotiating a worldwide licensing deal for a track.
We are always happy to have a free, no commitment initial discussion about any aspect of your affairs with which we may be able to assist you. Please do not hesitate to contact us – we don’t bite and we make very good coffee!
